My Expectations from WotC for OGL 1.1

These are some thoughts I penned on 19/01/2023 that have now been over taken by events on 27/01/2023.

WotC has acted in bad faith and continues to do so by being flexible with the truth in its statements. In simple terms,  you would have to be nuts to do business with them but thinking constructively there have to be some concessions for them to go away and never be a problem again.

  • It's not OGL2.0 ... it is GSL2.0. The proposed changes have nothing to do with being open or more open. It is completely the opposite. Be honest.
  • OGL1.0a has to be amended to OGL1.0b with irrevocable being clear.
  • WotC has to pass its OGL copyright from its ownership to an independent foundation, same as ORC.
  • OGL1.0a is valid irrevocable and perpetual for all content published under it. ie you cannot take back the copyright of SRD5.1 as it has been published under OGL1.0a. 5.1 has now been released under CC by attribution 4.0.
I have no problem with WotC securing their IP and applying whatever terms to new content and services. However, you simply cannot retrospectively change licensing terms significantly especially when changing those terms unfavourably way from  position of power to the other party with no recourse.
